The Wonders of Tomato :: Health Benefits of Tomato. Now we are talking. I never met a person who doesn't eat tomato. Everybody seems enamored with this vegetable because of what it can do as cooking ingredients and part of the menu. Others simply know that it is one of the healthiest vegetable. Tomato is a juicy vegetable that do wonders specifically in the health department. Tomatoes are herbaceous plant. Tomatoes have different variants with different colors ranging from yellow, orange or red. When ripe they are usually red and juicy plus a little bit softer. Tomatoes are consumed by people all over the world and is part of menu in different cultures. It is very nutritious and rich in lycopene -- which is a good substance in fighting cancer.

Is tomato a fruit or vegetable?

Botanically, a tomato is considered a fruit, it is not sweet that is why it is not considered a dessert. It is part of garnishing and as an addition to the main course. It is a good source of Vitamin C. For cooking purposes it is considered a vegetable. In canning purposes it is considered a fruit as well as it is soft and can easily be processed. Tomatoes are also acidic.

* Tomato is rich in lycopene an anti-cancer and also carotene rich vegetable. The natural components of tomato make a "genetic treasure trove" that produces lycopene, carotene and antioxidants. The research about fruits and vegetables having as cure for cancer is debatable but then eating vegetable and fruits are healthful so it is like shooting two birds in one stone -- eating healthy foods and fighting cancer.

* What is lycopene? it is a red carotene -- a phytochemical and can be found in some vegetables and fruits like papayas, watermelon and carrots.

* Tomato is anti aging. Fruits and vegetables are always good to the skin

* It is rich in Vitamin C

* It is rich in Vitamin A which is generally good for your eyes

How to Plant Tomato?

I grew up planting vegetables in your backyard with my mother, tomatoes are one of the vegetables we plant and it is always exciting when you see the harvest and when you see the fruit -- tomatoes and they are ready to be harvested. usually they are still green and you can wait for it to become red or harvest it. Green tomatoes are used in some menu.

Tomatoes are one of the most famous common garden fruits in the United States along with zucchini. For those who are new growers this is easily planted as long as you have the patience to wait.

Spets on how to plant tomato

* If you want to plant tomatoes in your own backyard, you can either buy a nursery and plant it. Some people used seeds specially if you want to learn from scratch. If you are a beginner it is advisable to plant the ones already bought in nursery.
* The place should have enough sunlight because tomatoes need sunlight for at least seven hours.
* Till the spot of land and then put some compost fertilizer for the bedding, there are available compost which are bought for less than ten dollars in 50 lb bag
* After transplanting the nursery by burying about three fourth of the tomato plant, then you can water it now with a little bit warm water
* Water it everyday usually in the mornings
